1914 ~  Enacted State Police Legislation for Rural Police (instead of the limited protection provided by the County & Constables) 

 

1919 ~  Earliest written record of Police (Specials) for North Brunswick Township

 

1921 ~ Enacted State Police Bill (period saw N.J. State Police as service agency for local police departments)

 

1949 ~ Police Department provides service and protection to the public, but not to overlap the service rendered by the N.J. State Police Department  --Police Commissioner Vincent L. Darago, Lieutenant William Hofer (Chief 1950-1962), Lieutenant John Amorino & 15 patrolmen including Officer Carmen
Canastra (Chief 1962-1983).

 

1949 ~ Ordinance to Establish a Police Department in Township of North Brunswick

 

1958 78 ~ Special Officers with no pay; 30-Police Officers – paid police

 

1960 ~ Still a part-time Police Department

 

1961 ~ Resolution Adopting Civil Service Rules and Regulations for North Brunswick Township

 

1963 ~ Ordinance to Establish Rules and Regulations for        North Brunswick Police Department

---Mayor Fred J. Hermann announced that North Brunswick will have a full-time police force.

 

1964 ~ Police Commissioner John Flanagan moved the police department into a full-time operation.

 

 

2014 Commemorates 50 years of a full-time operation Police Department in North Brunswick Township
